Have you heard the news? The world-famous and much loved equine event, The London International Horse Show have confirmed, the event will return this December after having cancelled last year’s event due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
For those of you who know it well, Olympia, as it is affectionately called, is held at Kensington Olympia each December in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The show is hailed for it’s festive feel, world class equestrian inspired Christmas shopping and of course, for being a haven for horse-lovers of all ages.
Though, there is one BIG difference to this year’s event… it has a new home. Promising to ‘recreate and enhance all the traditional aspects of the show’ at the ExCel centre in London for 2021, the event will run, from 16 to 20 December here, in this new location.
The move is due to redevelopment work having been ‘accelerated’ at the event’s hallowed Olympia London venue, which has hosted the show for 49 years. The building work required as a result of the coronavirus pandemic would restrict its use in December, and so organiser’s have made the decision to relocate in order to continue to host this incomparable equestrian celebration.
Benefits of the new venue include:
Access, especially for horseboxes, which can park on site at the ExCeL, and even be unloaded under cover if the weather is wet. Those of you who have driven to the event at Olympia will know what a battle the access and parking can be.
Extra space. I’m told, the plan is to make the warm-up area open for public viewing, for example. Which is a fantastic thing to be able to see, it can give fans and equestrian enthusiasts, aspiring young riders a great insight into what goes on behind the scenes.
Tickets for the 2021 event will go on sale sometime this month we are promised. Though, with the recent cancellation of Burghley for a second year, it does beg the question – what will happen between now and then?
I so missed last year’s event (and the whole outdoor events season in general), the London International Horse Show has become an annual right of passage almost, for me. I felt at a loss without it last year and sorely missed the incredible Christmas shopping, plus my all time favourite; The Metropolitan Police Activity Ride along with so many others within the programme. Who knows, maybe Pedro could be a candidate for the 2022 Shetland Grand National? Though… he may be better suited as an adorable mascot.
To keep up to date with the latest information, you can sign up to the London International Horse Show’s newsletter for the latest information on ticket releases. We’ll see you there!
Until next time…
Lots of love,
