Back to all things British now - and Charlotte's test was magical. Totally flawless. Watching their partnership makes me proud to be British. I think one of the most amazing things about Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro (Blueberry) is the bond they have.
They have been competing together for years now and as Charlotte very aptly said: 'I can’t help but smile when I ride Valegro because I think something and he does it and I laugh and think, ‘How does he know? I didn’t even I ask; I just thought it.’
Carl's test was impressive too despite a hot headed Nip Tuck. Carl was doing incredibly well to contain the excited Don Ruto gelding, and then Nip Tuck spooked at a flower at P during his transition to walk, a HUGE gasp rang out in my office at this point, but it is safe to say Carl Hester recovered the test in excellent fashion! I have heard a lot of people say that Nip Tuck's flightly and fresh attitude has been his set back since day one. Without that little spook he would of been in very high numbers, Carl took to Facebook later on to add 'Frustratingly a Pokemon at P! A lot of points lost but lots to like! Tomorrow is another day!!' with a lot of supportive comments and fans there is no need to be disappointed. The team still bought us home a Silver medal after all, with Carl posting a lovely selfie with Nip Tuck that said; 'Barney this Silver is yours just as much as it's mine!! Thank you for all your support and good wishes x'
Now, I don't think I can end this Rio themed post without mentioning 5 time Olympian William Fox-Pitt. After his horrific cross-country fall in France resulting in a head injury and induced coma. Well it has to be said, his comeback was fantastic, a pure example of the Great British Attitude. Representing Team GB at the Rio Olympics 2016 just 10 months after being in a coma, William and Chilli Morning really did put on a show! There were some nail biting, hands over eyes, tense moments over fences for me in the office but they certainly didn't disappoint.
Speaking of his Rio ambition 10 months ago, while still unable to walk he said, “I’ve always had Rio in the back of my mind. It’s been brilliant having that as a target. A totally unrealistic one, but it was there. I thought it was fine but nobody else did.”
Many are saying he is totally mad! Perhaps he is, but as the Mad Hatter says 'all the best people are.'
