Body Positivity With Bee Sting Clothing.

March 18, 2018

You will most likely have seen my social media post a few weeks ago, where I wore this sweatshirt from Bee Sting Clothing featuring the signature hoof prints on the chest. After seeing these online, I just had to get in touch with the brand to find out more.

Abbie Dixon is the designer and creative genius behind the brand. Inspired by her horse Malaku's shoes, Abbie created the founding collection of signature hoof print sweatshirts and t-shirts from her bedroom on her family farm in Manchester.

Ladies, we all know that we come in all shapes and sizes. Breasts included.

We would all be pretty boring if we didn't. No two are the same, sometimes quite literally and so, Abbie created the statement garments with this in mind, she says:

"Whether you carry a pair of Bee Stings or Big B's, the Bee Sting brand is here to celebrate women and hopefully crack a smile. Yes, the horseshoes look like boobs..."

Abbie studied printing at university and explains she had some of her equipment left over and thought that positioning some horseshoes in a suggestive place might be quite fun and so initially she started off by wearing her own designs to work. Now, work for Abbie is actually Costume Assistant at Coronation Street - cool hey?

When explaining the brand to me Abbie said: "I love parading around with my horses shoes slapped across my chest. They do turn heads... for the first time ever. I wear my Bee Sting sweatshirt to Coronation Street and Strictly Come Dancing and it always gets compliments from ladies, the guys usually find it entertaining but I'm completely cool with that. There's a tribe of costume ladies that wear them at Corrie, with all different shapes and sizes of boobs. The brand is just supposed to be fun."

Once the garments began to pick up some interest and the orders began flooding in, Abbie stopped printing the sweatshirts herself and approached a company in Manchester who could take on the responsibility of this so that Abbie could keep up with the demand.

The founding collection of Malaku Sweatshirts consisted of three colours; Black, Charcoal and Coral and are super affordable at just £40.00!

I chose the Black Malaku Sweatshirt as really loved how the gold horse shoes stand out against the black fabric. I am not one for bright colours and so this was right up my street; a subtle statement piece. Anyone who knows me, will know how much I LOVE jumpers too. I practically live in them! They are super comfortable and you just can't go wrong with a nice, cosy jumper.

This stylish and casual sweatshirt is lightweight, making it perfect for Spring/Summer days. It is made from lightweight French terry spun cotton and is the ideal transition piece for the (hopefully) warmer weather. It is cool enough to wear for a lazy day on the sofa or as I mentioned, equally warm enough for days out and about in the outdoors in the coming months.

The sweatshirts are available in sizes S (6-8), M (10-12), L (14-16) and so it really is up to you depending on your size and how you would like to wear it. I like my jumpers to be slightly oversized.

Following the success of Abbie's founding collection, she has now introduced TWO new colours to the range! A blue sweatshirt with silver horse shoes and a raspberry pink with rose gold horse shoes. What more could you want?!

In addition to the sweatshirts, there is a collection of t-shirts as I mentioned earlier on. The white with gold horse shoes seems especially fitting for the Spring/Summer days. These are available to buy for £32.00 and there is even 35% off the grey and white t-shirts with black horse shoes!

I have am the owner of a pair of bee-stings and so it is nice to see a brand embracing this in a fun yet tasteful way! I think it is important to point out that you don't need to be a horse lover to like or wear one of these products! It's all about promoting body positivity and I for one am definitely onboard. Are you?

Buying British and supporting small businesses is something I am super passionate about, being one myself. You know the saying - "When you buy from a small business an actual person does a little happy dance." OR this one, "When you buy from a small business, you're supporting someone's dream.

Well, it's true. Honestly, I promise you - every time someone orders a magazine, it really does put a smile on my face and makes me feel like doing a little happy dance of my own.

Until next time...

Lots of love,

Hollie-Ella Xxx
